You don't need school after eighth grade

Sep 14, 2025 · 2:06

Summary

A rider claims you don't need school after eighth grade, arguing that everything after is just memorization. Kareem pushes back at first, testing the theory with pop quiz questions about Newton's first law and slope intercept formulas. Neither of them can answer correctly. The conversation shifts when the rider suggests high school should become trade school instead, teaching practical skills like cooking, fixing cars, and hanging shelves rather than preparing students for standardized tests. "If I went to high school and they taught me all of those skills, I would be much better off than I am right now," he says. Kareem comes around completely. They agree you could still keep sports and friend groups, just ditch the chemistry memorization. The rider admits he went to college just to hang out, which Kareem respects.

So, what's your take? You don't need school after 8th grade.

100% disagree. I think you should at least finish high school. Think about it. K through 8, you get all the fundamentals. You learn how to read. You learn about the earth. You learn about your body. You learn about arithmetic. Maybe some science. Maybe even bullying.

Practical knowledge. Practical knowledge. And then it's just memorization. [Music]

You just memorized. Yeah. You just memorized.

Did you go to— No, I didn't go to high school.

You just stopped in 8th grade. Yeah.

What did we even learn in high school? Chemistry. Hey, you learn like pop quiz questions. So, for example, like you know what's uh Newton's first law? Gravity.

Uh no, it's uh it's that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion until it's impacted by another force. YouTube Academy.

I'll give you another. What is the slope intercept of a line? Seven.

No, it's uh y plus mx or something. I don't know. I didn't go to high school. Well, what did you learn in high school? I didn't learn anything in high school. I just went because they told me to go. I learned how to smoke cigarettes on the way to school.

See, you can do that just normally. What do you suggest children do? You don't need high school. I do recommend it, but I think in America, we have a kind of messed up current system. I don't think you learn a lot of stuff. I think there's a decent amount of teaching to the test, shall we say.

They should change high school. I think so. As we get more AI, we got to learn the real fundamental skills of the world that maybe we've completely forgotten cuz we just hire them out. High school should just become trade school. You learn how to make hang shelves.

You learn how to cook. You learn how to fix your car. If I went to high school and they taught me all of those skills, I would be much better off than I am right now.

I think you'd also get all the social elements of high school at the same time. Yeah. You could still have the sports.

You could still have the friend groups. You know what? I said I 100% disagree, but now I 100% agree. Great.

You also shouldn't go to college if you don't want to. I think college can still be really good. I think college is good if you want to hang out.

Or if you know what you want to do. I literally went to college cuz I wanted to hang out.

Well, I think it works. Look at me now.

Yeah. The most hangout guy in New York City, I think.
