Long-form vs short-form podcast contentMediaPodcast market saturation and necessity

We Dont Need Anymore Podcasts

Summary

We don't need any more podcasts," a rider declares to Kareem, calling the medium oversaturated. The irony? She's currently being interviewed on one. Kareem fires back that she literally begged to be on the show, while she insists everyone with the ability to talk thinks they can podcast. They're both right. The conversation spirals into meta territory as they bicker about Subway Takes versus Subway Takes Uncut, the long-form version that apparently everyone asked for. She's not buying it, even as she admits she'd listen to this exact conversation. One commenter said Kareem has "a voice that sounds like I have five hot dogs stuck in my throat," which stings. The takeaway: podcasting is dead, except for Subway Takes, which is the last stop on the podcasting train.

So what's your take? We don't need any more podcasts. It's saturated, 100%. I disagree. No, we don't need more people talking. We do need more people talking. I feel like everyone who has the ability to talk thinks they are capable of a podcast. They are. It's literally two guys talking, you know? "Hey, let me tell you a little something." You are currently on a podcast and no one needs it.

No one needs this? That's not true. They don't need it. Nobody needs this. What I'm saying is nobody needs any of those. That's what I'm saying.

Look, here's the thing. You begged me to come. I did not. I was sitting over there shooting the podcast. You employed by a podcast. Now you're on a podcast. But we don't need more podcasts. Like, you already have a podcast.

Yes. It's called Subway Takes Uncut. It's on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, everywhere else. But what is this? This isn't the short podcast on Instagram and TikTok. The long podcast is on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.

What's the name of the show? This show is called Subway Takes.

What's the name of the other show? Subway Takes Uncut.

Why did we need it? Because it's the long version of the short podcast.

Who asked you for more? Everyone. Literally all of the fans. You're everywhere. All the—you're literally here.

You're—I'm not there. That's a sign you were there. I was there.

You're literally on this. I was on that. We didn't need it.

I know, but being on this—this is for your—this is for your eyes. Yes, the podcast is for your ears. You're telling me you don't want to listen to me while you're not sitting next to me? Although, one guy did comment that I have a voice that sounds like I have five hot dogs stuck in my throat, which I thought was not very nice.

This might be the last podcast. All aboard the podc—all aboard the podcasting train. The last stop: Subway Takes podcast. You want to be a guest on Subway Takes Uncut? I'm happy to pick up this conversation in a longer form podcast. Who wants to listen to more of this? I would listen to this.

They—someone is welcome to my podcast also. Vertical video is the best kind of video ever made. Let's not even get into that, please.

One more podcast: The Subway Takes podcast is in. Everything else is out.
