Don't be best friends with your neighbor
Summary
A straphanger offers some real estate wisdom: don't be best friends with your neighbors. Kareem agrees immediately. The logic is sound: you want to be nice, lend them sugar and milk, but avoid the complications that come with actual friendship. "You want a Goldilocks relationship with your neighbor," the rider explains. Too close and suddenly you're obligated to cat-sit or invite them to everything. But the conversation gets derailed when another subway rider starts filming their filming, leading to an awkward confrontation. The interloper struggles to articulate his own take when put on the spot, eventually landing on: this whole show is a problem on the subway. Classic New York moment.
